I need to find a scholarly, peer-reviewed journal article. What is a good database to get started with?

  • Academic Search Premier, Google Scholar CSUSM, and Proquest are good databases to begin searching for scholarly, peer-reviewed journal articles if you are just getting started and want a broad multi-disciplinary database to search.
    • Academic Search Premiere:  The video below will show you how to limit your results in Academic Search Premier to only retrieve scholarly (peer-reviewed) journal articles. 
    • Googe Scholar CSUSM: Click on articles that have  a"Get it! @CSUSM link." This will take you to the CSUSM Library page which provide links to the articles under "full text availability" If there are no links listed click on the "Get a digital copy" blue box to to rquest the article  (make sure you are signed in to view the box -CSUSM username and password).     • ProQuest: The video below will show you how to limit your results in ProQuest to only retrieve scholarly (peer-reviewed) journal articles. 
  • However, If you are looking to go more in-depth on a particular subject, we recommend choosing one of our subject specific databases using  the "subjects" drop down menu on the A-Z  databases link  to search for scholarly, peer-reviewed journal articles.
