In the search box, you can search for a specific title or a general topic and then click on the Search button. This is demonstrated in the search below where we search for the topic child development.
You will be taken to a results page where you can use limiters on the left to filter the results further.
While the Library building is closed due to COVID-19, we recommend first filtering by the Full-text online and Books facets because finding an ebook is the easiest and quickest way to find a book.
If you see an ebook that you would like to open, click on "Online access may be available."
You will be taken to a page that will show you which database platforms host the book. There might be more than one in which case you can choose any of them.
Click on the ebooks page for precise directions if you need help opening an ebook.
However, if you cannot find an ebook that fits your needs remove the filter for Full-text online so that you can also see physical books.
If you see a book or item you wish to request, click the “Request Access” button and you will be prompted to login to your InterLibrary Loan account with your CSUSM username and password.
The request form will have fields in which you can put in your preferred mailing address.
Upon submitting your request, we will attempt to locate and acquire digital access to the book you are requesting. If digital access is found, you will be emailed a link to the ebook (usually within 1-3 business days of submitting your request).
We will always attempt to purchase digital access to the book you request before shipping a physical item. Our priority is to deliver the resource you need as quickly as possible, and providing digital access is usually much faster than shipping. If your requested item is mailed to your home, it is because we couldn’t acquire an ebook version of the book you requested. If you will only accept digital access, please indicate so in the Notes field when you place your request.
If there is no ebook available that the Library can acquire, we will package and ship the item to the preferred mailing address you indicated in your request (due to limited on-campus staffing and COVID-19 safety requirements, your shipped item may take up to and possibly longer than two weeks to receive).
You can request any book or item in OneSearch, whether CSUSM Library owns it or not, or whether it’s checked out or on the shelf. If we do not own a physical copy and there is no digital copy available for us to purchase, we will request a physical copy be mailed to CSUSM Library so that we can forward it to your preferred mailing address. The turnaround time for owned books is shorter.
We will place a prepaid UPS return shipping label with the item(s) that are shipped to you. When you are ready to return your item(s), you can either return them on-campus anytime through the Library Return bins (located in Craven Circle outside of the Library building) or re-package the item and use the prepaid label and drop off at any UPS location or request that UPS pickup from you.
Please note that we cannot guarantee that we can ship items internationally and we cannot ship items to PO Boxes.
